ABOUT G-FORCE

Take the Guesswork
Out of Towing

Do you know how much your caravan and tow vehicle actually weigh when fully loaded?

Just because your vehicle has a 3,500 kg towing capacity doesn’t necessarily mean your entire setup is within its legal weight limits.

At G-Force Caravan Weighing, we provide professional mobile weighing services to help identify potential overloading, check weight distribution and give you a clear understanding of your towing combination.

Whether you’re heading away for the weekend or travelling around Australia, knowing your weights is an important part of towing safely.

WHAT CAN WE WEIGH?

More Than Just Caravans

Caravans

UNDERSTANDING YOUR WEIGHTS

It's More Than Just
Your Caravan's Weight

Several important weight limits apply to your towing combination.

ATM – Aggregate Trailer Mass
Maximum permitted total loaded caravan mass.

GTM – Gross Trailer Mass
Mass carried by the caravan’s wheels when coupled.

GVM – Gross Vehicle Mass Maximum permitted loaded tow vehicle mass, including towball download.
GCM – Gross Combination Mass Maximum permitted combined mass of your loaded tow vehicle and trailer.
TBM – Towball Mass Downward load your caravan places on the towball.
Axle Weights and Weight Distribution Individual axle limits and uneven loading also need to be considered.

Important: Your caravan can be under it's ATM while your tow vehicle exceeds it's GVM, axle limits or GCM.

WHEN SHOULD YOU WEIGH YOUR CARAVAN?

Don't Assume. Know Your Weights.

Buying a New Caravan?

Before taking delivery, request a weigh docket or weight confirmation document identifying your caravan’s VIN.

Some caravans have incorrect stated weights or surprisingly little available payload, leaving less capacity for your holiday essentials.

Buying a Used Caravan?

Arrange an independent weight assessment or request recent weighing documentation before purchasing.

Added accessories and modifications can increase weight, and you’ll also need to confirm your tow vehicle is suitable.

Already Own a Caravan?

Your caravan’s weight can change over time.

Water tanks, batteries, solar panels, toolboxes, gas cylinders and personal belongings all use valuable carrying capacity.

Consider weighing your caravan:

Frequently Asked Questions

Can my vehicle really tow 3,500 kg?
Not necessarily. GVM, GCM, axle limits and towball download can reduce what your vehicle can legally tow.
Overloading can affect braking, handling and stability, result in fines and create potential insurance complications.
No. A WDH redistributes axle loads but does not increase your legal weight limits. It must also be suitable for your towing combination.
Rated payload is ATM minus Tare Mass. Accessories, water, gas and personal belongings all use this allowance.
A basic weighbridge reading may not identify individual axle overloads or uneven side-to-side loading.

Yes. Ideally, your caravan and tow vehicle should be loaded as they would be for travel.
